Designed for high-definition multimedia entertainment at home or on the go, the Aspire 5735 boasts a 15.6-inch HD Acer CineCrystal TFT LCD panel with a native 16:9 aspect ratio for a true cinematic view. And it includes two Acer 3DSonic stereo speakers and high-definition audio support for a complete, immersive multimedia experience.

The cover is shaped to resemble a precious stone, with the Acer logo floating on a polished midnight sapphire sublayer. The palm rest area has a matt grey finish that gives remarkable tactile feedback, while contrasting with the gleaming cover. Easy-to-use media keys allow access to frequently used functions and allow total multimedia control. The multi-gesture touchpad with circular-motion scrolling and pinch-action zoom puts swift, flawless navigation and intuitive zoom in and out at your fingertips.

The Acer Video Conference solution integrating real-time video and voice over internet delivers highly mobile and extremely flexible communication, and it includes the Acer Crystal Eye webcam and PrimaLite technology, which incorporates a premium sensor and lenses to provide superior video performance under low-light conditions. In addition, the Aspire 5735 comes with Draft-N Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n) networking, featuring MIMO technology and supporting Acer SignalUp with Nplify wireless technology for a smooth connection to wireless networks.

It's powered by the 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor, which boosts speed, reduces power requirements, and saves on battery life. It also offers a fast 800 MHz front-side bus speed and 2 MB L2 cache. Other features include a 250 GB hard drive, 4 GB of RAM (maximum capacity), Super-Multi drive for burning single- and dual-layer DVDs as well as CDs, Gigabit Ethernet networking, Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics (with up to 1759 MB of shared video memory), and pre-installed Windows Vista Home Premium operating system.

Spec Check
  • 15.6-inch LCD screen
  • 2.0 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor
  • 250 GB hard drive
  • 4 GB RAM (maximum)
  • Dual-layer DVD+/-R drive
  • Quad-mode Wi-Fi (802.11a/b/g/n)
  • Intel GMA 4500MHD graphics
  • Windows Vista Home Premium (64-bit)
  • Weighs 5.9 pounds

The Basics

  • Processor: The Intel Core 2 Duo T6400 processor has a 2.0 GHz processor speed, fast 800 MHz front-side bus (FSB), and 2 MB L2 cache. (An L2, or secondary, cache temporarily stores data; and a larger L2 cache can help speed up your system's performance. The FSB carries data between the CPU and RAM, and a faster front-side bus will deliver better overall performance.)

With two computational execution cores in a single processor, it provides greater system response when running multi-threaded applications simultaneously with no significant increase in power consumption. It's optimized for multitasking and is ready to support the Microsoft Windows Vista operating system. It can simultaneously run multiple demanding applications--such as graphics-intensive games or serious number-crunching business productivity applications--while downloading music or running virus-scanning security programs in the background. Some of the advanced Intel innovations of the Core 2 Duo processor include:

    • Smart Memory Access: Improves system performance by hiding memory latency, thus optimizing the use of available computer data bandwidth to provide data to the processor when and where it is needed.
    • Advanced Digital Media Boost: Effectively doubles the execution speed for instructions used widely in multimedia and graphics applications.
    • Dynamic Power Coordination: Coordinates Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology and idle power-management state (C-states) transitions independently per core to help save power.
    • Deeper Sleep with Dynamic Cache Sizing: Saves power by flushing cache data to system memory during periods of inactivity to lower CPU voltage.

  • Hard Drive: The generous 250 GB Serial ATA hard drive (5400 RPM) provides more than enough capacity for storing a large audio and video library, as well as extra space required for video editing. This SATA hard drive also quickens the pace with a higher speed transfer of data--akin to Firewire and USB 2.0.

  • Memory: The 4 GB of installed RAM (PC2-5300, 2 x 2 GB) maximizes the capacity for this notebook,. It also offers a fast 667 MHz speed.

  • DVD/CD Drive: The dual-layer DVD drive is compatible with a wide range of formats, including both DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs, CD-RW discs, and dual-layer (DL) DVD+/-R discs, which can hold up to 8.5 GB of data--great for backing up your MP3 collection or your most important documents. It features the following speeds: 4x for DVD+R DL, 4x for DVD-R DL, 8x for both single layer DVD+/-R, 8x for single layer DVD+RW, 6x for single layer DVD-RW, 5x for DVD-RAM, and 24x/16x for CD-R/RW. It reads DVD-ROM discs at 8x and CD-ROMs at 24x.

  • Keyboard & Mouse: This notebook has a 105-key keyboard (12 function, four cursor, two Microsoft Windows keys; independent US dollar and Euro sign keys ), inverted T cursor layout, standard numeric keypad, hotkey controls, 2.5mm minimum key travel, and international language support. The touchpad has multi-gesture technology, including circular-motion scrolling and pinch-action zoom.
Screen, Video & Audio
The wide-aspect 15.6-inch Acer CineCrystal Full HD display provides a true cinematic view with 16:9 aspect ratio for HDTV and the latest Blu-ray Disc format. The 1366 x 768 resolution captivates with its precision and ensures flawless, pixel-for-pixel reproductions of entertainment created in the 720p high-def format. An 8 ms high-def response time diminishes ghosting in games with finely rendered, complex graphics. Acer GridVista software simultaneously shows up to eight windows on dual displays and automatically resizes open application windows to fit the screen for fantastic multitasking.

Video is powered by the Intel Graph ics Media Accelerator X4500MHD, which uses shared video memory (up to 1759 MB allocated from the system memory) and provides Windows Vista Aero interface support and enhanced 3D graphics performance--delivering over 2x scores on 3DMark 06. Intel Clear Video Technology provides outstanding video playback with sharper image quality, increased clarity, and customizable color controls. It also enables enhanced visual quality of interlaced content on progressive displays. This notebook also includes an integrated audio card with Microsoft DirectSound compatibility and two Acer 3DSonic stereo speakers.

Networking, Connectivity & Expansion
Be ready for the next platform in wireless connectivity with the integrated quad-mode Wi-Fi chip. Based on the draft 802.11n Wi-Fi specification, it offers up to five times the performance and twice the wireless range as existing 802.11g wireless. It's also backward compatible with 802.11b/g networks (commonly found in home routers and wi-fi hotspots) as well as 802.11a networks (which has a higher throughput, but more limited range--great for closed office environments).

It also includes a next-generation ExpressCard 54/34 card slot (replacing the PCMCIA slot), which lets you take advantage of thinner, faster, and lighter expansion cards for even more advanced wireless, networking, storage, and security features. It comes with the following external connectors:

  • 3 USB 2.0 ports for connecting a wide range of peripherals--from digital cameras to MP3 players
  • 1 ExpressCard/54 slot (compatible with ExpressCard/34 media)
  • Analog video output: 1 VGA
  • 5-in-1 memory card reader, compatible with Secure Digital (SD), MMC, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, and XD Picture Card
  • 1 headphone jack, 1 microphone jack
  • 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet
  • 56K modem (V.92)

Operating System
The 64-bit version of Windows Vista Home Premium (with SP1) is the operating system for users with advanced computer needs, and it includes all of the Windows Media Center capabilities for turning your PC into an all-in-one home entertainment center for watching DVD movies and accessing your digital audio library. You can also use Windows Media Center to record and watch your favorite TV shows (even HDTV) and to access new kinds of online entertainment content. Computers that include Windows Vista Home Premium and an auxiliary Windows SideShow display will also allow you to access key data even when your computer is off. It is also easier than ever to share files between other PCs in your household and to manage your laptop computer settings to more securely connect via Wi-Fi.

Every edition of Windows Vista provides the essential tools and technologies to help protect you whether you are browsing the Internet, connecting to a wireless network, or just reading e-mail. All editions of Windows Vista include new tools that can warn you of impending hardware failures long before you have lost any important personal data. I bought one of these for gaming and coding, which crashed before I was even able to complete the online registration. After that, each attempt to restart the computer resulted in it powering itself off before booting. I was more than willing to allow for the possibility that it was just a fluke and requested a replacement which Amazon helped me with in a friendly, time efficient manner. After having the new machine for less than 3 days, it pulled the same stunt. I hit the power button, heard the fan start and the drive spin for just a second before the power indicator went off. This made me rather sad because it really is an attractive unit and the specs suggest a lot of potential, but ultimately I found this machine unreliable…at best.

I bought this from Amazon and it has 1 week of use now.

Yerterday i see the screen has a problema. The plastic frame border on the bottom of the screen is detaching off. You can even see the glue they used to put the plastic frame on top of the screen. I noticed this happens because it get real hot in that part. Its exactly on the botton where the “acer” name is. Its the hottest part of this laptop. Its strange that since most laptops get hot on the bottom where batteries are. Well on that part is so hot that the glue melted and the plastic now leaves an open space between the LCD screen and the frame. Im really pissed off, this laptop has 1 week and this should not happen. I have used it allot, but always plugged into my desk. This should not happen after 7 days of use. Even a basic quality test should have detected this. And im with air conditioner in the office all the time so i cannot imagine how it would look if not. The whole plastic frame would melt. I know it will eventually melt the whole glue and it will come off. Luck it has 4 screws on each border so that will hold the glass on place. I cannot give this back since im outside the US and it costed me 100$ shipping. It has 1 year warranty but I would have to pay 100$ to ship it back and then again 100$ to receive the new one. So thats half of the cost of this laptop. I knew this was cheap and now you all know why. This will happen with all laptops of this model i suppose since when im mean that it gets hot there it really does, so that melts the glue which they used to put it together. I have an Acer 17 LCD which works excellent after 4 years of use, that why i went with Acer again. The screen on this laptop os beatifull, and it has tons or Ram that why i give it a 2 star. I dont thing its acceptable that this happened after 1 week, even when its only the plastic frame on the screen which should not affect the laptop dirt will get into that place and then i can trow this away. Nice 650$. Im sure this will not last me 1 year since if after 7 days this happens i dont give this laptop to much to live. Now you know why its so cheap, because its cheap build. Im sorry for Acer since i will never buy a product from them again. Next time I will go with my feelings and buy a Sony or HP. This was suppose to for work and I use computers for 10 hours straight a day so im sorry that i did not went with something of more quality.

    Update May.

Besides that problem i mentioned the laptop rocks for the price. The plastic frame that holds the screen did not dettached further, only under the “acer” band but not allot. Gladly the plastic frame did not detached more, it seems that is where the screen gets the hottest point. The laptop is hot. Thats stil there. I will get a laptop cooler and I advice everyone that wants to use this for daily use for several hours does this. You cannot use it on bed or over the legs so hot it gets. Even my left hand when i type feels the heat coming from below. The heat i so intensive when you move it out of the table its still hot for a while where you left it. I dont care to much about but im sure thats why the LCD melted, since the glue that they use to paste the plastic on the frame is probably not make for such much heat.

Besides that the laptop rocks. I got like 3 or 4 blue screens a day but I found the problem. I thought it was the head but was Google Chrome. Other people mentioned this problems as well, so i uninstalled Google Chrome and no blue screens since then. Wifi is good.

Overall i would give this a 3 and half star, but for the price i got it 650$ is a sure buy.

The colors are amazing, this is always increible in Acer since I also own a 17 LCD that is still going after 5 years.

I recommed this product but get a laptop cooler for it. Battery is also good. I got a logitech VX nano mouse as well.

I have used this computer for about three weeks and love it so far. The computer comes with a couple Acer programs that are very useful, my favorite being Acer GridVista. This allows you to divide up your screen and pin windows to each division. Since the computer is a wide screen, I can easily write about a set of data that is pinned to the right on a word processing document pinned to the left while still having both large enough to read. The monitor is crisp, and the webcam more than enough for clear video chat. My only problem this far is that the computer has frozen on me twice when i have left it alone for a couple of hours. Upon restart, it is fine. I would suggest this machine to anyone, especially those who need to frequently write about documents online, in PDF, PowerPoint or Excel. Using the Acer Grid program to prevent flipping back and forth is a huge time/frustration saver. I would also suggest turning off the mouse pad zoom feature immediately, it is a tad annoying.

I have had this computer for about a month now and I am extremely happy with the performance and quality of the laptop. I use this everyday for my work after having losing my job and this computer delivers on value and speed. With the ample 4 GB of RAM I am able to do everything that I need to do, including programming and web design!

Very happy, would recommend to anyone. The only minus i have is being forced to buy vista, but if i wanted the 4gb i had to have it.

I purchased my Acer about 3 weeks ago and am very happy with it’s quality and performance. The number pad on the keyboard is a plus for me in my use and the display is of perfect size. Fits nicely in my case (built for 16″ machines) and isn’t too heavy to carry in my travels.

Acer makes fine products, but their customer support leaves a lot to be desired. I had a problem with a notebook computer overheating, for which I had an extended in-home service warranty, and it was like pulling teeth to get help. First, they refused to honor the in-home service and insisted I ship the unit. I shipped it to them, but then when I continued to have problems they stonewalled me, made false claims about what I had purchased, and sent me boilerplate responses (thank you Sujith_GWSI356) that were completely unhelpful. To fix the problems caused by the hardware failure they told me to make additional purchases. I will never buy another Acer product.

I love my new Acer! It’s convenient to use.. I just had to turn off my pinch pointer or something like that.. that automatically zooms the screen on the touch pad.. that was a bit annoying.. so when i turned it off.. all was good :)

I would give it a 5 star but the laptop is a bit heavy :(

I have had my computer for about three months and use it everyday. I manage two web sites, create and edit movies, manage my finances, surf the internet, and much more. This computer has met all my expectations and more. It has plenty of RAM memory and is easy to use. However, some software will not work properly with the 64 bit version of Windows Vista. I personally do not like the mouse pad and purchased a bluetooth mouse to use with my computer. The hard drive could be a little bigger for me, but over all I love my computer and would recommend it in a heart beat. My mother bought one after I did and she loves hers. We are able to video conference and that is a joy. I did some research on Acer before purchasing my computer and found it to be a good company. I have not had any issues so far with my computer. Don’t be afraid to purchase this computer for your needs, I believe you will be pleased, just as I am.
